§ V. Erosion control.

Latest version.
  • Slopes in the city are generally steep and erodible velocities can be expected at most enclosed drainage system outlets and in most natural or manmade channels forming elements of the urban drainage system. Table 7 gives maximum permissible velocities in continuously wet, aged channels. Few watercourses in the city will fall into this category. Table 8 gives maximum permissible velocities in channels lined with uniform stands of grass covers, well maintained. Most natural and manmade channels and swales in the city will fall within this category. Most grassed swales in the city will fall within the sod type covers in the second grouping in Table 8.

When outlet, channel or swale velocities exceed the maximum values in the tables, the city may require the use of concrete or other nonerodible linings, scour aprons, energy dissipators, stone riprap, or other protective devices.
