§ 12-75. Number plates.

  • (a)

    The city clerk shall assign each vehicle licensed pursuant to this article a distinctive number, and without additional expense to the applicant, shall issue and deliver to the owner a license in such form as may be prescribed by ordinance, and furnish to the owner of such vehicle one number plate.

    (b)

    Such plates shall contain the registered number of each vehicle and the calendar year for which license is issued, the license issuance and expiration date and shall be either of two colors or of two sizes, one to designate vehicles used for hire, and one to designate vehicles for private use.

    (c)

    When a license is issued to a person engaged in the transportation of persons or property for hire who uses more than one vehicle, the city clerk shall note on the occupation license the number and a brief description of each vehicle so used by such person and shall make a record of such numbered vehicles and brief description of each of them. Number plates shall be issued for each vehicle licensed.

    (d)

    The city clerk, at the expense of the city, shall purchase the license plates required for each calendar year.

    (e)

    The word "plate" as used in this article means a plate constructed of metal or of other material, a transparent sticker or other license emblem.
