§ 21-123. Containers generally.

  • (a)

    Each owner, tenant, housekeeper or other person occupying any room, dwelling house, apartment, institutional, commercial, industrial or other establishment or other building or portion thereof, and producing, or responsible for the storage of solid waste which is to be removed by the city, shall provide and use sufficient and adequate containers for the storage of all solid waste.

    (b)

    All containers for solid waste shall be of material acceptable to the director, with tight-fitting covers, and shall be watertight. Each approved container shall have a capacity of not more than 30 gallons, and not exceed a weight of 50 pounds. Dumpsters which may be loaded mechanically may exceed this limit.

    (c)

    All containers shall be maintained by the user in good, clean and sanitary condition, and the contents thereof shall be kept in a dry condition so that it can at all times be readily and fully removed by the city.

    (d)

    A limited number of contract containers are available from the city on a rental basis. The containers are one and one and one-half yards in size and may be rented, if available, for $8.00 and $12.00 per month, respectively, plus time charged for pickup.

    (e)

    Disposable containers with suitable frames or containers as approved by the director may also be used for the storage of solid waste.

    (f)

    Containers which do not meet the standards of this article may be collected together with their contents and disposed of.
