§ 2-72. Term of office; election; appointment.

  • The city attorney's position shall be divided into two positions: one position shall be called the city attorney; the other position shall be called the city counselor.

    (1)

    The city attorney shall be elected at the-general city election held on April 5, 1988, and every two years thereafter. The qualified voters of the City of Boonville shall elect some suitable and competent person to the office of city attorney, and the person so elected shall hold office until his successor is duly elected and qualified.

    (2)

    The city counselor(s) shall be appointed by the mayor with the approval of the council and shall serve at the pleasure of the mayor and city council. The incumbents will be on an independent contractor status and multiple individuals or firms may serve concurrently.
