§ 6-5. Powers and duties.

  • The cemetery board shall have control and supervision of all city property comprising the city cemeteries or which may hereafter be acquired by the city for such purpose. The board shall have general advisory supervision and advisory control of the cemeteries and shall make recommendations periodically to the council as to improvements, acquisitions, management and control of the cemeteries. The council shall allocate to the cemeteries board such amounts of money as may, in the opinion of the council, be required and said money so allocated or appropriated by the council shall be spent under the advisory supervision of the cemetery board. The board shall not enter into any contracts or improvements of any kind without first receiving the sanction of the council and shall not make any commitments for the expenditure of money without specific authority from the city council. The cemetery board may request employment a sexton, caretaker or maintenance personnel who shall be responsible to and work under the direction and control of the city administrator.
